Author & Event Policy

For Authors

We are not quite ready to shelve your books! We are hoping to prepare space and thoughtful attention in a year or so, and we will put out a call at that time.

When you see the call, have your sales rep reach out to us—or feel free to email us directly with ordering details. We’re only able to bring in titles that are returnable and offered at a standard 40% bookseller discount. Once we have that information, we’ll take a look at whether your book is a good fit for our customers and if we have space to display it. If it’s a match, we’ll order it through our distributor.

Please do not drop off any unsolicited review copies, enquire at the store, or pitch your book to other customers. As a writer myself, I understand the excitement, but as a bookseller—I’ll admit that we just don’t have space or time quite yet! Thank you!

Events—birthday parties, bookish events, ladies night…be creative!

We’re grateful for the enthusiasm around hosting events at the store! While we can’t accommodate every request, if you’d like to propose an event, please read our policy below and feel free to email bradyreadery@gmail.com with details about timing, format, your expected turnout, and whether the event is open to the public and/or benefits the community (while not required, it changes the calculous). If it seems like a good match, we’ll be in touch!

The Brady Readery

Private After-Hours Use Policy

Thank you for considering The Brady Readery for your private gathering. Our bookstore is available after business hours for book clubs, meetings, celebrations, workshops, and other community events that align with our mission and values.

Rental Fee & Purchase Rebate

Private use of the bookstore is available at a rate of $200 per hour.

The full rental fee is due at the time of booking to reserve your date and time.

We encourage your guests to explore the bookstore while they're here. To reward groups that support the store, up to 50% of your rental fee may be rebated based on merchandise purchases made during your event.

The rebate is calculated dollar-for-dollar based on eligible merchandise purchases, up to one-half of the rental fee.

Examples:

  • 2-hour rental: Rental fee = $400

    • Group purchases $100 in merchandise → $100 rebated

    • Group purchases $200 or more in merchandise → $200 rebated (maximum rebate)

    • Group purchases $250 in merchandise → $200 rebated (maximum rebate)

Only purchases made during the event by attendees count toward the rebate. Taxes, gift cards, event tickets, and prior purchases do not qualify.

Book Club Reservations

We love hosting book clubs!

Each established book club may reserve the bookstore up to two times per calendar month with no rental fee, provided participants purchase their books for that meeting through The Brady Readery.

Beginning with a third meeting in the same calendar month, the standard private rental rate of $200 per hour applies.

Alcohol Policy

Alcohol may only be brought into the bookstore with prior approval from The Brady Readery.

If alcohol is present anywhere in the bookstore during a private event, no person under the age of 21 may be present. This includes infants, children, and teenagers.

Groups are responsible for complying with all applicable federal, state, and local laws regarding alcoholic beverages.

Event Guidelines

To help preserve the bookstore for everyone:

  • The renter is responsible for the conduct of all guests.

  • Decorations may not damage books, shelving, walls, or fixtures.

  • The space must be left in substantially the same condition in which it was provided.

  • Any damage beyond normal wear may result in additional charges.

  • The Brady Readery reserves the right to end an event that becomes unsafe, disruptive, or inconsistent with our policies.

Cleaning Fee

The Brady Readery reserves the right to withhold or assess up to a $50 cleaning fee if the space is left excessively dirty or requires cleaning beyond normal post-event tidying. This may include, but is not limited to, excessive trash, spills, stains, food or beverage residue, decorations requiring removal, or other conditions requiring additional staff time.

Normal cleanup, such as disposing of personal trash and removing decorations, is expected of all groups.

Reservations & Cancellations

Reservations are confirmed upon receipt of payment.

Cancellations made at least 14 days before the event will receive a full refund. Cancellations made fewer than 14 days before the event may be refunded only if the date is rebooked or at the discretion of The Brady Readery.

Right to Decline

The Brady Readery reserves the right to decline or cancel any reservation that is inconsistent with our mission, values, occupancy limits, insurance requirements, or applicable law.
